2000/2010 Curling House Rules

League play at the Springbank Curling Club follows the current rules of play published by the Canadian Curling Association. The current rules of play can be viewed online on the CCA web site.

In addition to the CCA rules of play, we also have some local house rules:

1.        Men may only curl in the Men’s (or Mixed) league(s).

2.        Ladies may only curl in the Ladies (or Mixed) league(s).

3.        Mixed Leagues must be comprised of a least 1 member of each gender (e.g. 3 females and 1 male), and the same gender cannot play both skip and third.

4.        A spare (not registered on the team at the beginning of the season) must play in the “Lead” position.  If you have two spares, then they must play “Lead” and “Second”. (Exception: unless needed to meet rule #3).

5.        Maximum of one Juvenile (17 & under) allowed to play without Executive approval.  Rules #1 and #2 apply.

6.        If your team cannot make a scheduled game, standard curling etiquette is to contact the opposition skip with as much notice as possible to advise them of the problem.  Hopefully a "practice game" can still be played that night.  In addition, a "make up game" may also be played later if a mutually agreeable date/time can be arranged.  It should not be an expectation that a make up game be played - rather it will be the decision of the non-offending team to decide if they want to play a make up game.  People sign up to play on a certain night, therefore they may not be able (or willing) to curl on another night.  If a make up game is not played, the game will be deemed a default with the loss going to the team who could not field a team for the originally scheduled game.

7.        At no time will any member of the competing teams:

a)       throw curling rocks on their sheet prior to the game, or

b)       adjust the ice conditions of their sheet prior to the game.

8.        The ice keepers will take down the score of the previous game off of the score board as a signal to us when the ice is ready for use.  Please do not go on or near ice prior to score coming down.

9.        For each ten minutes a team is late they lose one point and last rock, after 30 minutes the game is defaulted.

10.     When the bell rings, you complete the end you are playing and play one more. The end is deemed “complete” when the last rock of the end comes to a stop. If the bell rings after the last rock has stopped but before you have started the next end, then you will play the next end plus one more.

Thank you,

Your Executive.
